To benefit bysuch teaching and retention potential, we have introduced collaborative projects for inter-cohortteams of freshmen and senior students in the University of Utah’s Department of ChemicalEngineering.Freshmen develop their resumes over their first year in our program. Towards the end of ourspring semester they use their resumes to apply for positions on the senior capstone projects onwhich they are most interested in working. . Theprimary learning goal for the module was for students to be able to make appropriatemeasurements and apply the principle of energy conservation to analyze a real-world engineeringprocess. Activities were designed to help students with system boundary concepts.
