climatechanging emissions. The purpose of the research presented in this paper is to assess howundergraduate civil engineering programs contribute to this goal. A cross-sectional comparisonbetween data from a prior national survey of freshmen engineering students interested in civilengineering and pilot data from a national survey to senior undergraduate engineering studentswas used to assess students’ belief in climate change, their understanding of climate science, anddesire to address climate change in their careers. The results indicate that senior undergraduatecivil engineering students are more likely to believe that climate change is caused by humans(67%) compared to freshmen engineering students (47%). . The main topics of the course include stress, strain,deformation, and stress/strain transformation. In the three-semester duration of this study, threefaculty members (Instructors A-C) taught lecture sections and one faculty member (Instructor C)taught laboratory sections (Table 1). Instructor C taught one section of CIVL 304 and twosections of CIVL 307 in fall 2017. The syllabi, textbook, and topics covered were identical forall lecture and laboratory sections. For this study, the summer cohorts and fall cohort are treatedas equivalent. It should be noted that Instructor A is an early-career tenure-track assistantprofessor with less than five years of teaching experience, Instructor B is a full professor withapproximately 15 years of

self-assessing their goalsetting abilities and developing approaches to progress towards goal completion, is important in helping students maximize learning in their WPL experiences. Co-op and WPL educational models have the capacity to develop and shape students, and future, in their early career experiences. Scaffolding and supporting students early on in these processes can facilitate purposeful engagement throughout their professional practice. Future work related to this study will involve developing quantitative instruments, e.g. surveys, used to assess data that can document students’ progression through their placements, and find any common threads across students and placements.References[1

His experimental research interests focus on reinforced and prestressed concrete, while his engineering education research interests focus on experiential learning at both the university and K-12 levels. Dr. Carroll serves as a voting member on ACI Committee S802 - Teaching Methods and Educational Materials and is Chair of the Career Guidance Committee for the ASCE - St. Louis Section.
