boat would look like and briefly describehow it would operate. This prompt specifically does not include such constraints as how manypeople (if any) it should hold, how fast it should travel, and cost. In order to keep the problemfrom getting too extreme, some specificity is provided, such as Atlantic Ocean, the term ‘boat’rather than the more generic ‘vessel’.Developing Mind Stories and ImageryStories and imagery can help students learn and retain engineering concepts. The graphicalportrayals of engineering principles and illuminating stories can help students preserveknowledge long after the final exam.Students in an introductory mechanical engineering course are asked to draw images related tothe following: 1) epistemology, 2) mechanics of

in engineering established by the National Academy ofEngineering. What might not be as familiar to many of them is one of the challenges known as“Engineering the Tools of Scientific Discovery” In the summary of this challenge provided onthe NAE website [1] one can read the following: “In the popular mind, scientists and engineershave distinct job descriptions. Scientists explore, experiment, and discover; engineers create, design, and build. But in truth, the distinction is blurry, and engineers participate in the scientificprocess of discovery in many ways. Grand experiments and missions of exploration always needengineering expertise to design the tools, instruments, and systems that make it possible toacquire new knowledge about the

Implementing gamification in engineering bridge programs: A case study exploring the use of the Kahoot! application Christian E. López 1 and Dr. Conrad S. Tucker1,2 1 Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, the Pennsylvania State University. 2 School of Engineering Design, Technology and Professional Programs, the Pennsylvania State University.AbstractThis work introduces a case study in which the gamified application Kahoot! was implementedin an engineering bridge program. Students’ Hexad player type is assessed to gain a betterunderstanding of how their player type relates to their perception of application and the gameelements employed. Gamification has shown great

Social entrepreneurs understand that withinnovation comes responsibility. With past technological fixes contributing to global warming, market crashesand animal extinction, we need creative minds to develop strategies that address the root causes of complexproblems and incorporate them into viable business models. The Graduate Certificate in Innovation,Technology and Society provides you with an environment in which engineers and non-engineers work togetherto cultivate innovative

Logic Circuits Lab – Breadboard or VerilogAbstract:Logic Circuit design is one of the introductory courses for Electrical Engineering and ElectricalEngineering Technology students. Ideally, it introduces students to hands-on circuit building, problem solving, testing and function verification. The lab teaches them to use correct labequipment from digital meters and oscilloscopes to digital logic analyzers. The logic design lab isa learning experience that most students enjoy, as it is their first hands-on experience withdesigning and building miniature systems.Other instructors prefer introducing students to Verilog design as the lab experience. Studentsusually use evaluation boards to implement their designs. The

U.S. occurred at unprecedented rates over the past decade, whichdirectly limits patient access to critical medicines and undermines health care. A majority of drugshortage is due to the lengthy lead time and manufacturing quality issues [3]. In this paper, weconsider the traditional bio-drugs (i.e., biologic/biosimilar/vaccines) and the advanced emergingtherapies (i.e., gene therapy, cell therapy, and tissue engineering). Figure 1 illustrates the flowchart of biopharmaceutical supply chain from drug development to products being sold topatients. New drug development is composed a sequence of steps, including discovery, pre-clinical animal trials, FDA application, product and process development, three phases of clinicaltrials, FDA review and
