from those in years 2 and 3. This is due first, to a University-widechange in learning management systems which moved all courses from Blackboard™ toCanvas ™ in 2018, and a corresponding move from the video capture system TechSmith Relayto VidGrid. The free online whiteboard, Stoodle, that was used for group collaboration in 2016was eliminated and left an essential gap in the course design. To fill this gap, in 2018 and 2019,Microsoft One Note was used because it was free on campus and mimicked much of the samefunctionality, albeit with intermittent lags in performance. Both courses makeextensive use of a microcontroller to teach the fundamentals in both subjects, and heretoforehave used the C language and the Arduino platform, but now both courses have moved to Pythonand to the Adafruit Feather M4 Express board, which can run Python natively on its associatedmicrocontroller. Prior to the transition to Python, ME 30 had a relatively high failure ratebetween about 10 - 35%. Since transitioning to Python, the failure rate dropped dramatically toabout 3% in the fall of 2019. The paper will outline the previous structure of the courses, explainthe motivation for transitioning from C to Python, and discuss the pros and

The research was carriedout over four 3-hour sessions for three weeks, excluding daily break time. On the first day, before any material was taught, students completed a survey about CT, and students playedKahoot after each session to test their knowledge about the material. Students retook the CTsurvey on the last day of the program. The workshops were identical to MMC lessons, withonly minor changes and translations for the KW group. Parents were asked to share theirchildren’s impressions and feedback about the lessons. Additional information is included inthe
