rushed design and implementation of V1 allowed for several opportunities forfurther optimization. Starting in fall 2021, an undergraduate course was integrated into redesignof the GOAL programming to come up with a V2. An existing service learning course wasrepurposed to explore this effort. The value of stakeholder perspective was clear, and theredesign effort included collaboration with multiple teacher partners. These teacher partners wereprovided V1 kits as a baseline implementation which introduced GOAL to a third local schooldistrict. [2] provides a detailed look at the fall 2021 implementation. MCPS postponed fall V1implementation due to production delays and a restructuring toward more controlled kitdistribution.Spring 2022: MCPS

With over 50% of our engineering students identifying asnon-white, there is a lot to celebrate but there is still more work to do. When considering theintersectionality with race, we discovered that African American women engineering studentscomprised only 4% of the college and Hispanic women engineering students comprised just 3%.Further analysis revealed that out of the nearly 800 degrees awarded in 2022, not even 50 wereawarded to these demographics. The communitysurvey was designed as a three-wave longitudinal study that was distributed to the impactedcommunities in the aftermath of the Marshall fire, in Colorado. The first survey went out in Mayof 2022, the second survey in December of 2022, and a final survey is planned to go out in thesummer of 2023. In this community survey, respondents were asked to answer a plethora ofquestions which included demographics, level of damage to their homes after wildfires, andHCRN capacity

In July 2022, a one-day workshop was held at UIUC with a group of fifteenK–12 educators from twelve different local schools, ranging from pre-K to high school. After theinitial introduction, workshop participants were divided into five groups based on their teachingrole and grade level. A human-centered design approach was then used to guide a series of groupactivities, which focused mainly on connecting all stakeholders to create better support betweenservice-learning project developers (university students) and receivers (K–12 students). Lessonslearned from the summer workshop include: (1) having a long-term (3–5 years) commitment forpartnership between local schools

program is the historic lack of community-engagement skills in engineering curricula. Thus, many of the faculty and staff within the HE advisory committee (though not all) haveacademic backgrounds in engineering but are not formally educated in community development. Therefore, much of their perspective on the desired learning outcomes is informed by personalexperience in the HE space, rather than an understanding of the literature and best practices. Toovercome this limitation, several steps were taken throughout the 2017-2022 timeframe. Anundergraduate student was hired to find and review college and university community-engagedengineering curricula (under a variety of names), with the goal of incorporating additionalcomponents the team had not
