From that pointforward, a feedback mechanism will be used to make minor adjustments on a yearly basis. Moreover, in the next sub-section, the proposed pedagogical modifications to the above-mentioned four courses ensuing from this FLC’s initial efforts are presented. In addition, first and second year course instructors will provide lists of anyformal peer groups they facilitate in their courses at the end of each semester ( this timing willhelp to account for students’ course attrition and changes in groups throughout the semester). Wewill implement these data collection procedures during the Fall 2021, Spring 2022, Fall 2022,and Spring 2023 semesters over a total of four consecutive semesters.Survey Data AnalysisResearch Question 1 To identify relationships between the performance outcomes and peer networkcharacteristics of freshmen and sophomore level engineering students qualitatively, we willdevelop sociograms that describe each SNA measure of interest using Gephi [19], (a

class topic was a local issue brought to light on August 9th, 2018, when the Tampa BayTimes released a story, “The Hillsborough School District found lead in its water. It didn’t tellparents for a year [6].” The authors of that article linked it to a newspaper database presentingthe results from the school district’s tests to date. Main concerns highlighted in that article were1) the district did not inform parents about the tests or the results for 17 months, 2) parents wereconcerned about the impact of lead on their kids’ development, 3) levels of lead were of concernin some schools, 4) the district had only tested 53 schools to date and 2022 was the expected datafor completion of testing of their 270 facilities, and 5) the target

and an Honorable Mention for the Ford Foundation Fellowship Program. Her research interest focuses on changing the deficit base perspective of first-generation college students by providing asset-based approaches to understanding this population. Dina is interested in understanding how first-generation college students author their identities as engineers and negotiate their multiple identities in the current culture of engineering. Dina has won several awards including the 2022-2023 Outstanding Research Pub- lication Award by the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Division I, 2018 ASEE/IEEE Frontiers in Education Conference Best Diversity Paper Award, 2019 College of Engineering Outstanding Graduate

achievement (i.e., exam scores and coursepass rate), although we did not find evidence that PLSGs promoted institutional affilation. We believe that PLSG is a promising and scalable innovation for students in engineering. Weplan to run funded trials in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022. By providing time in PLSGs for studentsto complete surveys, collecting their names, and enhancing the research design, we expect tostrengthen the study and document outcomes more substantially.AcknowledgmentThe research team is grateful to the ASU Kern Project for supporting this work. We alsoacknowledge two other Thermodynamics professors, Dr. Wang, and Dr. Bocanegra, for theirsupport on this study. We also appreciate the program chair and the anonymous reviewers fortheir

assess the results beginning in fall 2022. The assessment mechanisims anddetails have not been established by the University WE Committee yet. Being a member of theCommittee and having the first-hand knowledge, it has been proposed to have each programassess how they meet their specified learning outcomes as they pertain to the WE requirements. Then, a thourough assessment of the entire initiative will be conducted by the WE Committee.Having taught such courses for three semesters, it is highly recommended to have students writelow, medium, and high stakes reports broken up into individual and group assignements.References[1] E. Engineering), and one course exam had significant non-zero effects onsketch scores. The class of 2022 scored an average of 1.24 points higher on the sketches thanstudents from the classes of 2020 and 2021. This result supports the literature that creativity maydecline over the course of the undergraduate engineering education [5]. However, at the U.S.Military Academy, it is typical that higher-performing and motivated sophomore students takethe studied courses with junior or senior students, indicating that motivation may again be aconfounding variable. The 15 Systems Engineering majors scored an average of 1.23 points higher on the 16-pointsketch assessment scale than Civil Engineers (sample size of 131).
