, Engineering Connect aims to impact the persistence offirst-year engineering students by providing instructors with a framework to deliver academicsupport within the cornerstone engineering courses. Moreover, Engineering Connect strives toincrease the dissemination of academic support information to students; to increase the exposureto and utilization of existing services and programs available to students at the university; and tocultivate a culture of belonging and a culture of equitable support for all. 2. Methods The Engineering Connect program was piloted in a Cornerstone Engineering Designcourse in the fall 2022 semester. As a first-year engineering course, Cornerstone EngineeringDesign provides students with a foundation for

By offering a course where participants allocate timewith their engineering peers and faculty to discuss and practice self-care activities, we aimed thatparticipants would experience a decrease in their stress level and gain training in how to care abouttheir overall wellness. The objective of this work is to describe the development, structure, andactivities of the new engineering wellness course at UC Davis, which was piloted during the 2022-2023 academic year. The main goal of the class was to guide students to develop and practice goodself-care habits. Each class/activity focused on a self-care domain (cognitive, emotional

Tools likeChatGPT have gone from being niche to having broader use [3,4]. It is becoming increasinglycommon to interact with products that appear "intelligent", although the label "artificialintelligence" may have been replaced by other euphemisms [5,6]. to encourage class attendance, yet this oftenmakes enemies of a few students who believe the instructor is being lazy. Currently the strategy is tomake the problems available at the beginning of the semester since class attendance is voluntary andthis tends to minimize student complaints.During the 2022-23 academic year, some classes had mandatory attendance using the “University’s“Instructor Initiated Drop policy”. This policy allowed the instructor to drop any student whoexceeded either the absence (4 times) or missed assignment (3 sets) limits, stated in the course Proceedings of the 2024 ASEE Gulf-Southwest Annual Conference West Texas A&M University, Canyon, TX

. 2IntroductionThe demand for energy consumption in the world is growing at an annual rate of close to 2% peryear ( Welker, A., et al., 2022) ) and that translates to about 3,598 Twh in 2022. In the UnitedStates (US), the energy consumption growth rate is 2.6% which translates to about 106 Gwh in2022 (EIA, US Electricity Overview, 2023). The US energy generation sources in 2022 (USPrimary Energy Source, 2022) are shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 US Energy Source Distribution (Source EIA)Fossil fuels (Petroleum, Natural Gas, and coal) make up 78.8% of the total energy source in theUS. Petroleum is the largest source and solar is the lowest. Renewable sources add up to 13.1%(Solar at 1.9%). It has been a fact that these non-renewable sources

They note that, while solar adoption is critical for the transition away fromfossil fuels, it has its own set of issues around the hazardous materials used in the manufacture ofsolar cells (Bell, Daggett, and Labuski, 2020). While the authors acknowledge the wariness ofefforts to challenge any aspect of the long-awaited energy transition, particularly “given the highstakes of the climate crisis” (ibid, 4) they maintain that integrating thinking and action aroundsystemic change alongside the energy transition is necessary to

educational pipeline. To advance the school's equity goals [17], a policy change in 2022 was made to integrate the two groupsof students in the same cohort of first-year engineering students. With the intended engineering majorsnow combined with the accepted cohort, the challenge was to develop a distinct type of engineeringseminar that would consider the merged student population. There were strengths and weaknesses fromboth previous versions of the course, which had to be considered to develop a unified revamped versionthat would best serve both groups of students equitably. In Spring 2022, a committee established by theAssociate Dean for Undergraduate Education began working towards the first edition of this new course, launched in Fall 2022.The
