Abstract In recent years, the authors have described various classroom-proven DSP teaching tools that have helped motivate students and faculty to implement real-time DSP-based systems to enhance education. These efforts have emphasized the theme that DSP is much more than just a collection of theories and problem solving techniques, and that hands-on experience with hardware is extremely beneficial for both mastering concepts and retaining students. exhibits. Benefits of employing virtual world simulation tools include rapidprototyping, low-cost development and delivery, collaboration, and access to aninternational community. An interactive robotics exhibit in the area of mobile robotprogramming education has been constructed and deployed in the virtual world. Asecond exhibit to enable 3D human-robot interaction studies has also been established.Student access, involvement, and collaboration in the virtual robotics exhibits have beensuccessful. Simulations developed in 3D virtual worlds, such as Second Life, can serveas a highly accessible virtual laboratory and can support a variety of educational andresearch objectives in the area of mobile robotics and human-robot interactions.1

” is a somewhat vague, but critical, teaching goal.Intuition is often described as subconsciously following a set of rules,1-3 developed throughexperience, and leads to better decisions in complex situations.4 In the Dreyfus model,progressing from novice (thoughtlessly following the rules) to an expert (one who examines theresults) requires intuition5 which is often difficult to teach or explain.Transitioning from a novice to expert can occur with the help of technology. The study also reveals that among the eight majordiscipline areas examined, engineering has much lower online representation compared to others.One reason for this slow adoption of online teaching pedagogies in US engineering

the needs of a mobile robotics course for students from multiple disciplines. This robot systemcan be programmed in JAVA, Python, Lua or C. It can also be programmed with various devicessuch as smartphones, tablets, or the traditional laptop computer. This mobile robotics coursecurrently uses off the shelf or slightly modified off the shelf robots to teach robotics. The initialresults will indicate that it is possible to use this modular platform in its various modes to createsome of the basic behaviors required for the laboratory assignments.IntroductionThis paper will present the design of a modular educational robotics platform to handle thedivergent skill sets of a multidisciplinary population in an introductory mobile robotics course
