assignment involvesinitially summarizing a pre-determined research article on an engineering innovation, thenconducting further research into the topic to expand their knowledge of it and its implications forfuture research. We noticed that most students could summarize the initial reading, but haddifficulty articulating questions for future study. . Research results demonstrated thatthe flipped lesson improved the quality of students’ sources on mid-semester design proposal andless so on their final report. The lesson was fully implemented for fall semester 2017. Based ondata from the team’s first research project, and feedback from course faculty, the team piloted amid-semester reinforcement lesson in fall 2019. This second phase of the research project seeksto specifically reinforce students’ retention of concepts related to both the use of proper citationformatting and incorporation of more scholarly and authoritative sources in their team’s finalproject report. Although this institution has beenfollowing this principle for the past ten years, it has done so with little direct knowledgeof students’ preferences regarding their options for print versus ebook format for theirtextbooks. Some studies have shown that students expressed a preference for using theirtextbooks in print format. To assess the usefulness of the service of providingeTextbooks, in the Fall 2019 semester the engineering librarians at the University ofMichigan developed and sent a survey to engineering graduate and undergraduatestudents whose textbooks were available as eTextbooks. StateUniversity, Maritime Academy IRB committee. Over three years, all students taking the coursewere invited to participate. This resulted in 106 of 112 students giving consent: Fall 2017 (32students), Fall 2018 (42 students), and Fall 2019 (32 students). The course consisted of threemajor laboratory experiments. The lab report topics were convection, airfoil, and truck drag. Asthe semester progressed, the latter two topics were not based on knowledge from prerequisitecourses. Students were provided additional information literacy instruction to help with theirsearches. The supplemental instruction was also a part of an effort to improve students’information literacy skills in this program. Each experiment included theory presentationshalfway through
