thatfocused on students’ preferences for Blackboard or Canvas as part of theundergraduate research effort, which resulted in 137 responses. In addition, a usabilitystudy was conducted to gain qualitative usability data. Among other questions, thestudent preference survey asked students to rank the two systems for the followingtasks: 1. Finding course documents 2. Finding grades 3. Having accurate and updated grades 4. Ease of navigation 5. Intuitiveness 6. Communicating with professorsVolunteers were recruited from the 2016 online survey for a usability study. Duringthe study, students performed a set of five tasks in both Blackboard and Canvas. The committee identified three major barriersto change: 1) excessively long, prescriptive and detailed accreditation criteria, 2) a complicatedand user-unfriendly evaluation system, and 3) difficulty attracting technically active mid-careerprofessionals.
