in the workplace, and an emphasis on experientiallearning with both in-class activities and real, open-ended projects in technology-basedorganizations. Students enter the program as a cohort and participate with that cohort in aprescribed set of courses. There are no electives although students make take up to three coursesin the various Tufts graduate schools (Engineering, Arts and Sciences, and the Fletcher School ofLaw and Diplomacy) at no additional cost.This paper describes the MSEM program’s architecture and courses, our approach to leadershipeducation, and the two out-of-classroom experiential learning activities: the summer TeamPracticum, and the Individual Leadership Project that is the capstone of the program. department ofRose-Hulman Institute of Technology set out to develop a 10-week Rose Belt course to providestudents with fundamental knowledge, quality tools, and practical experience using the DMAIC(Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) process. The intent of the course is not to supplantother forms of certification (white, yellow, green, or black belt). Rather, the goal is to use aproject-based approach so that students gain valuable insight into the organizational (operational)improvement process, as well as experience using Six Sigma tools (qualitative and quantitative).It is the author’s belief that these experiences will reduce the amount of time required bystudents/graduates to begin engaging in “live” Six Sigma projects upon completion of

is a course-based graduate program that can be completed on a fullor part-time basis and draws on the expertise of both the Faculty of Engineering and AppliedScience and the Faculty of Business Administration. The completion of twelve courses results ina Master of Engineering Management, or MEM, degree. The program consists of five coursesoffered by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, five courses offered by the Facultyof Business Administration, and a two-course project.
