BRIGE grant. Details about the outreach program, as well asquantitative assessment of the impact on the high school students‟ perceptions of engineering,can be found in Scherrer (2012)12. In this paper we report on the impact performing the outreachhas had on the engineering technology students performing the outreach. Specifically, we studyhow their participation has affected their interest in remaining in an engineering technologymajor and career, their likelihood of going to graduate school, and their interest in K-12 STEMeducation.Ten of the eleven undergraduate students performing the outreach were engineering technologymajors (the eleventh is an engineering major) and all but one were from underrepresented groupsin engineering. The selection committee was formed from participating facultymembers, who meet towards the end of the March to select REU fellows based on the merit oftheir applications. Applicants were asked to rank available research projects based on their interest and wereaccommodated as much as possible to work on projects from among their top three selections. Inthree years, the REU Site accommodated 35 fellows, 34% of whom were underrepresented andminority students. The fellows came from universities and colleges in 18 states across the nation. Page

Professor Land comes upon his conclusion from surveying over200 companies that hire both engineers and engineering technology graduates. The Departmentof Labor came to a similar conclusion when they turned down the petition for a separate code forengineering technologists.
