Three ENGR 1201 sections had lab groups swap the designs and attempt to construct the paper airplanesfrom those instructions. engineering juniors and seniors having recently completed a co-opor internship, the second investigates the experiences of recent engineering graduates during thefirst twelve weeks of their jobs, and the third explores the beliefs of more experienced engineerswho engaged in service-oriented projects as students. navigateworkplace legal structures, but also changing how they perceive engineering as a field for ethicalaction. In this paper, we consider the degree to which ethics are integrated into engineeringcourses. To this end, we examine the popular use of the medical metaphor of “dosage” in relationto ethics in the engineering classroom. We identify this usage pattern and use thematic analysisto consider its implications in engineering education literature. Taking medical metaphorsseriously can sensitize us to certain troubles related to the limited integration of ethics intoengineering classrooms. . For all eight slides presenting the complex concept of how magneticresonance imaging works, the visual evidence had the same design as in the assertion-evidenceslides. While the size of that evidence was typically smaller, the auditorium in which theexperiment occurred had a relatively larger projected image than exists in most rooms. Mindstorms in theirstudents’ education, but encountered different barriers and constraints when trying to supportthose values. In common, they valued Mindstorms for two general reasons: 1) its role insupporting project-based learning; 2) its potential role in shaping students’ futures, specificallythe possibility that they might choose to pursue engineering, robotics, or another STEM field.The perceived additive value of Mindstorms to their schools is its support for hands-on, project-based learning. , biomedical engineeringstudents at Northwestern University also felt they gained valuable leadership,management and communication through developing and teaching a K-12 outreachprogram.13 In the Tufts University study, eight top graduate fellows from Tufts Universitywere given the opportunity to be paired with a K-12 teacher.11 Participating NSF GK-12fellows spent 20 hours a week on average working with the outreach project, with 16hours (2 full days) per week spent in the classroom of their partner teacher.
