performance, and engagement in data science, AI, and machinelearning (ML). We asked students for feedback after they finished actual classes and/orworkshops using water quality data and machine learning exercises. The results indicate thatstudents found the experience highly enjoyable and found it applicable, reporting increasedknowledge about data science concepts and increased motivation to learn AI/ML. emerging multidisciplinary field [3] that deserves considerable attention.To address these needs, the Student Cohort for Undergraduate Research in Marine BiosciencesAbroad (SCUBA) was created by the University of Texas System Louis Stokes Alliance forMinority Participation (UT LSAMP) in 2019 to engage non-traditional community collegestudents in coral reef research. The project benefitted from the cooperation of faculty and staff atthe University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and at Midland College (MC) to integrateengineering, marine sciences, and education.
