Most of the sunflower seed pro-duced is processed into cooking oil. Farm production in North Dakota has been hampered byoccasional shortages of petroleum fuels. Sunflower oilhas been suggested as a fuel that would serve as an alter-native to diesel fuel during periods of petroleum shortage.Sunflower oil used as fuel could insure a supply ofagricultural products if petroleum supplies are unavailable.
