Minority Participation: America’s Scienceand Technology Talent at the Crossroads: Underrepresented minority groups comprised 28.5 percent of our national population in 2006, yet just 9.1 percent of college-educated Americans in science and engineering occupations (academic and nonacademic), suggesting the proportion of underrepresented minorities in S&E would need to triple to match their share of the overall U.S. population. (p. 3) 1The under-representation of minorities as well as females and persons with disabilities is notsimply a demographic problem but also a social justice problem in a society that professes to beegalitarian and democratic 2. students and academic advisors. Academic advisors can continuouslymonitor students’ efforts and progress and the quality of students’ design artifacts. It allowsacademic advisor to provide timely and helpful feedback to students.Although these students were not widely separated by distance, their class schedules made itdifficult to hold full team meetings outside of regularly scheduled class times. They learned toleverage Redmine to work independently but share results across the full team. This experiencehelps students transition to the business world after graduation. Our students learn theimportance of collaboration and gain exposure to the tools that can facilitate this.References 1. Sheppard S, Macatangay K, Colby A, Sullivan WM. Educating
