As such, it is very importantthat instructors ensure that pedagogical principles drive the use of technology rather than theother way around. Instructors must strive to achieve certain learning standards, regardless of themedium through which they are teaching [11]. Because of this, course planning should take placebefore instructors select the technology and course management system that will be used for thecourse.It is also important to note, that although
the ability of students to take ownership of their work, to increase students’ability to develop research-based expository and analysis essays, and to increase their exposureto STEM-related issues and careers. This endeavor was prompted by a desire to better meet theeducational needs of our diverse student population within our current constraints. Our studentbody typically consists of 2,400 students each semester. Those students are normally earningtheir associate’s degree or a certificate under one of more than 60 degree plans or are earningcredits prior to transferring to a four-year institution to complete their bachelor’s degree. This paper summarizes the history of Junior Enterprise abroad anddetails a single case study of the implementation and integration of JE at UIUC, including thecurrent state and the future plans of the Junior Enterprise movement in the United States, andoffers best practices and recommendations for other institutions.The Junior Enterprise movement originated in 1967 in France. It has fostered experientialeducation in over 20 countries for almost 50 years. Currently, JE is active in 14 Europeancountries with over 280 Junior Enterprises

exposing students to queueing theory in an intuitive manner.4 OutcomesThe above activities were used for teaching Operating Systems during the 2013 Fall semester.There were 58 students registered for the class.Comparing the proposed activities to other approaches would require multiple groups withdifferent material. However, it was not possible for logistic reasons. Instead, our goal is toverify that activities are well suited to the context at hand, to learn about related difficulties,and to document potential improvements. We invited students to participate in an onlinesurvey at mid-term and we conducted a focus group at the end of the semester. The other courseis another transfer student course where I am the sole teacher.I felt the program met my expectations. The seasoned professor was generous in supplyingprevious materials, which helped give me a starting point for my preparation, and occasionally,when time for preparation was not there, a good backup plan. He was also a valuable resourcefor questions about departmental
