Students3.1 (CIS-S) developed by The PEAR Institute: Partnerships in Education and Resilience [12].This survey, totaling 44 questions, captured STEM interest, enjoyment, career interest, careerknowledge, and identity. However, this study focuses on the first ten questions based on thesurvey developed by Noam et al. measuring interest in science across various informal settings[13]. Researchers undertook three testing phases, including stability over time, internal structure,and construct validity. , andphysiological. Two underlying factors were used to measure emotions: enjoyment (4 items; α=.86; ω= .87) and hopelessness (4 items; α=.80 ; ω=.84). All reported alpha and omega values areaveraged values from each time the items were used during year 1. The items were adapted fromthe AEQ-S scale [23]. All emotion questions were listed in one block with the following prompt“Please consider how you felt today in the camp”. Enjoyment was defined as having feelings ofjoy while learning content during the summer camp. An example of enjoyment is “I enjoyed thechallenge of camp activities”. ). MethodsInstrument and VariablesWe used the Advisor Support and Self-Efficacy for Thesis completion (ASSET) survey to gatherdata for our study. With engineering graduate programs at HSIs as a focus and SCCT as atheoretical underpinning, ASSET was designed to explore graduate students' thesis ordissertation self-efficacy and their perceptions of advisor support. The instrument is based onVarney’s Dissertation Self-Efficacy (2010) and Zhao et al.’s Advisor Behavior (2007) scales,adapted to the engineering context as the Thesis Self-Efficacy and Advisor Support constructs.Previous work, which comprised an exploratory factor analysis (EFA), provided constructvalidity evidence for the adapted scales in the instrument (Mercado Rivera et al., 2023).The survey
