in college● Existing accommodations developed for traditional learning environments 2 The summary of what we are going to talk about today is this: ● Pedagogical approaches within engineering have been shifting. Project-based learning, studio environments, and team projects are increasingly popular in undergraduate engineering programs across the country. ● Many emerging practices are helpful in supporting students with disabilities, such as multi-modal learning, availability of electronic resources (increasingly common with “flipped” classrooms), and assistive technology. ● At the same time, there’s been an

introductory classes, there has been some work that shows that peer instruction is effective inupper division courses as well [5]. The major influence for this work is the peer instruction modeldescribed in [6]. This model is primarily used in introductory computer science courses (CS1)courses but was adapted here for junior level students.3.2 Active LearningIn the 2014 Freeman report, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, the authors performed a meta-analysis of 225 studies and found that active learning boosted testscores and lowered failure rate in science, technology, and engineering (STEM) classes [7]. In a2012 presidential report titled “Engage to Excel” there was a call for one million additional STEMgraduates and
engineers at three different technology companies of varied size and withindiverse product sectors. The study focused on how engineers working on cross-disciplinarydesign teams use artifacts to communicate and how those artifacts affect design decision making.Examinations of the artifacts practicing engineers use supported the development of designprinciples for instructors to create modules, assessments, and activities for engineering designclassrooms. The educational design principles, presented in this paper as ‘how might we’statements, include: (1) How might we encourage students to report honestly and accuratelyabout status? and (2) How might we foster the use of documentation in student engineeringprojects? Findings from this study will be

However, actual implementation of SBL in the classroom has been broad ascourses are adapted to keep up with a rapidly evolving technology.
