, we seek to apply and validate an assessment strategy to categorizestudents’ ways of experiencing human-centered design. We directly build on Zoltowski et al.’s[2] findings which suggest that engineering students experience human-centered design in sevencategorically discrete ways. Guided by this prior study, we seek to address the research question,“To what extent can we use post-course open-ended written reflection data to identifyengineering students’ ways of experiencing human-centered design?” The use of reflection datato categorize students’ ways of experiencing human-centered design is unique from othermethods that have extended Zoltowski et al.’s work but may offer a more accessible assessmentmodality for design instructors.
