Twenty of the participants were men(80%), whereas five participants were women (20%), which is consistent with gender diversityin the engineering profession (Pew Research Center, 2021). The study included eighteen Whiteparticipants (72%), three Asian participants (12%), two Hispanic participants (8%), and twoBlack participants (8%), which is consistent with racial diversity in the engineering profession(Pew Research Center, 2021). Twelve questions on the BOS and EOS surveys asked students to self-report aspects of self-regulated learning using a Likert-style questions. These twelve questionswere pulled from Toering et al.’s (2012) Self-Regulation of Learning Self-Report Scale (SRL-SRS), which has been previously validated in the context of secondary-school students ages 11to 17 years old. Toering et al.’s (2012) complete SRL-SRS instrument is 50 questions thatmapped to 6 different sub-scales that were based on previous self-regulated learning inventoriesand literature. Because we didn’t want the assignment to take more than 15 minutes, our team ofinstructors and advisors collaborated to select a

profession during these changing times, ISU faculty integratedprofessional practice skills with technical integrity in the civil engineering curriculum. Therevised curriculum extends the undergraduate engineering education beyond knowledgegeneration and technical skills to the broad realm of business and personal skills. This willimprove the ability of engineering graduates to work on teams, be effective communicators, besocially adept, manage projects, and be prepared for leadership roles.Changing an existing education program can be a daunting task. However, when inspired tosuccessfully prepare graduates for engineering practice in the 21rst century, it is well worth theeffort.Bibliography/References: 1. Beder, S., “Beyond Technicalities

Students were informed to keep in mind that ‘the bestdesign is tolerant of variations’ and to not call out tight tolerances when unnecessary. Each student participated in a design review during this project phase in which they lead a sit-and-spin CAD review of their part. During this review, they discussed how the part will bemachined using a CNC mill. Specifically, they were asked to be prepared to discuss the numberof setups, what operations will be performed from which direction(s), and to provide detailedinformation such as the type and stock size of the material, the size of the cutters and drill bits, etc. They were required to bring copies of their 2D drawing to the review and discussed thecalled out dimensions and

teaching style. According to Ruutmann and Kipper(2013), most engineering students fall under the active, sensing, visual, and sequential. However, most engineering educators use teaching methods best received by intuitive, verbal, passive (orreflective), and sequential learners (Ruutmann & Kipper, 2013). Since the original paper fromFelder and Silverman (1988), a variety of studies have been performed, both international and inthe United States. Thefollowing universities are included: University of Oklahoma (OU), Oklahoma State University(OSU), University of Colorado at Boulder (UC), and University of Texas at Austin (UT).Selection of these schools s based on several factors, including program size (faculty and studentpopulation), funding source (public vs private) and geographic location. Among the fouruniversities selected, UT is the largest based on the faculty and student size, followed by UC.The other two schools (OU and OSU) are of similar size and representative of typical programsacross the country. All the selected schools are public institutions. Data for this

One in six of the four million babies born in the U.S. eachyear have a blood mercury level above EPA set safe levels and high enough to cause learningdisabilities, impair motor skills, and affect intelligence (Kerry & Kerry 2007).Burning fossil fuels increase levels of pollutants and greenhouse gasses. Burning of coal addsmercury, sulfur oxides, and fly ash, among others to our atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuelsalso adds carbon dioxide to our atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas which means ittraps more of the sun’s energy that would otherwise be radiated out to space. Carbon dioxidelevels have been increasing exponentially since the mid 1800’s when humans
