The answers toQ2’s second part, “Why?” are connected to the cognitively complex activity with arrows andthen with lines to convey that the answers all belong to the same activity. We chose a taskdiagram to elicit and distill the cognitive complexities of undergraduate search experiences, andthen paired it with a concept map to link and define the relationships between concepts. Concept maps use a combination of concept nodes and thoughtful link labels and linesthat express meaningful relationships among concepts [6]. Understanding theinterdependency among environmental, social, and economic elements increased a statisticallysignificant amount in 2022 (the largest gain and the largest number of paired responses).Results: (No) Evidence of Student ResistanceOverall, there was not evidence of student resistance to the DEI topic(s). Previous studies havereported that student absences from class on the date when DEI issues are being discussed (whenthe topic is known to students in advance) may be evidence of silent resistance [30]. The studentabsences on the dates when different topics were discussed in-class (announced in advance) areshown in Table 8. videos followed a similar pattern.Results in this paper reveal a higher student resistance to completing online pre-class activities inthe in-person offering (Fall 2022) of flipped classrooms compared to its online offering (Fall2021 and Spring 2021). In addition, considering that the pre-class participation rate alreadystarted decreasing in Fall 2021’s online offering, the drop in pre-class participation in the in-person flipped classroom in Fall 2022 was not solely due to switching its modality from online toin-person but was also affected by the significantly more prevalent other in-person classes thatstudents were concurrently enrolled in.Figure 3. were presented to the participants in the post-test to assess theirperceptions of EDC 2022’s effectiveness. A Chi square analysis was conducted on the number ofparticipants that either “Strongly Agreed” or “Agreed” compared to “Neutral”, “Disagree” or“Strongly Disagree”. The statistical significance was set at α=.05. The results of these questionsand the P-values are shown in Table 4. The majority of participants felt EDC increased theirdesire to pursue a STEM career and their knowledge of 3D printing at a statistically significantlevel. This result, in addition to the pre-post test results support the project’s goal of increasingthe technical knowledge of the students.
