educational projects. c American Society for Engineering Education, 2014 Use of a Virtual Multifunctional X-Ray Diffractometer for Teaching Science and Engineering CoursesAbstractA virtual x-ray diffractometer has been developed and used as a flexible and powerful tool tohelp undergraduate and graduate students become familiar with the design and operation of theX-ray equipment in visual and interactive ways and learn fundamental principles underlying theanalytical x-ray diffraction methods. The diffractometer has been used: for lecturedemonstrations, as part of homework and control assignments, for preparing students to a hands-on work in X-ray labs, in combination with actual X-ray

Even if graduates are based in the US they will likely be working on an international team.  How the challenges of studying, working or volunteering internationally will lead to increased independence, maturity and perspective.A big part of student motivation is peer outreach. they have installed the student version of Matlab. Many of them have done that. Feedback about the lab from students, including official course evaluations, has been almostuniformly positive, which we attribute largely to the fact that many students consider the Arduinoto be something like state-of-the-art, want to know more about it, and feel that this lab gives themgood exposure to it. Another major factor in student satisfaction is that on the relatively rareoccasions when technical problems do arise, they are fairly easy to understand and to fix. Severalstudents have gone on to use the Arduino in other projects, such as Senior Capstone projects.References[1] D. Wilcher, “Physical Computing and DC Motor Control” in Learn Electronics

This research references online learning in an internet and web design course. In it,McSporran and Young state that the number of women in technology classes is lower than otherclasses. Survey results also found that women preferred online courses to traditional classroomsettings. In that particular course, it was found that the women scored higher than the men onassignments, projects, and the final exam. In addition, women engaged with the online sessionsand quizzes more often than the men3. Beer, Clark and Jones noted no significant differences ingender in online learning in their study and
