synchronous onlineinteraction would be higher.Conclusions This study seeks to develop an understanding of the quantity, type, and drivers ofsynchronous online student interaction in a Systems Engineering context. The results of thiswork demonstrate that the synchronous online mode of learning is a popular means of engagingwith distance learning technology. When prompted through some explicit instructor actions anda culture of inclusivity (regarding prompting, wait time, scheduled presentations), thesynchronous online students interact often and with high-quality.
