All lecture notes,homework, projects, and labs are posted prior to the start of class in multiple formats. Thetextbook is presented online in the TopHat engagement tool and includes videos, sampleproblems, and example data to provide multiple routes to learning the material. This course doesnot have exams as the grades are determined by the homework, in-class work, lab reports, and aterm project done with their lab group.In Fall 2020, in response to the pandemic, the course was taught in a hybrid mode whichcontinued through Spring 2021. traffic engineering courses using purposeful209 sampling, the most common sampling strategy employed in textbook reviews (Chu 2017).210 Syllabi primarily came from an open-source compendium called Open Syllabus . Open Syllabus211 is a non-profit research organization that started at Columbia University. They scrape the internet212 for syllabi from higher education institutions and conduct content analysis for education213 researchers. The site has over 18 million unique syllabi in its database. A search for “traffic214 engineering” textbooks yielded 88 results. From this list, five textbooks appeared on more than215 100 syllabi 2, and were retained for analysis. any ladders.Analytical Commentary on Insights for FacultySophie begins her narrative by highlighting both race and gender as most salient, but articulates gender asmore salient to her experience in engineering. Much of Sophie’s experience could be understood ashighlighting gendered microaggressions or other gendered cultural norms, such as mansplaining orstereotyping women as incapable. These might be seen as small, isolated incidents (i.e., the definition ofmicroaggression) but they are memorable, build up over time to have a collective impact, and affect herparticipation on her team and in the course.
