appropriate balance between macroethical and technical content. Throughfacilitation experience in this and other technical courses, the research team is working toidentify a key set of skills that are particularly valuable to teach students so that they areprepared to navigate macroethical issues in their future careers. Further work will formalize thesedesired learning outcomes and the teaching methods that can be used to accomplish themthrough a conjecture mapping framework, with aims to publish these findings in the future.ReferencesABET. a student'schoice of pursuing computer science in their career. Research shows that breaking downprogramming concepts to simpler and smaller pieces decreases the cognitive load and strugglefor students thereby increasing student interest and retention. This paper analyzes data from four online, interactive introductory programming textbooks withactivities that use a scaffolded approach to teach students programming concepts. The textbooksused are Programming in C++, in Java, in Python, and in C, respectively. The textbooks cover avariety of programming concepts from basic topics such as variables and branches to moreadvanced concepts such as recursion, across multiple languages. The textbooks have a series ofrandomized, auto-graded

Majority of thestudents join the program either before their first semester or during their first year at theuniversity. Throughout their time in the program, each student engages in a personalizedcombination of courses and/or experiences, all focused on an overarching theme of their choice(Sustainability, Health, Security, Joy of Living), to achieve five program competencies: Talent,Multidisciplinary, Viable Business/Entrepreneurship, Multicultural, and Social Consciousness[1]. engineering studentscomplete a two-semester capstone design sequence as part of their graduation requirements. Thesecourses are structured around independent student projects that challenge students to design, build, and troubleshoot fully functional systems. The primary goal is to engage students in solvingcomplex, real-world problems by utilizing the technical competencies developed during the firstthree years of the curriculum. Capstone projects not only reinforce professional skills but also helpprepare students for careers in industry, making them a vital component of the electricalengineering curriculum. The primary objectives of senior projects are to simulate industry-relevant project developmentand to build expertise in four key areas

levels in the university.Lastly, electives, as previously surveyed, often play a large part in the courses that students taketo complete a specialization. Thus, there is a connection between the two. Specializations areoften viewed within a discipline as a way to demonstrate the ability of that major to lead toadditional career paths (e.g., a pre-medicine major in chemical engineering), to advertise thecollective expertise of the faculty (polymers), or to help a student show a commitment to anarrow part of the field (any of the bio-type specializations). The major is typically the basis ofthe profession, often evolving while maintaining its core focus; the specialization is a way todemonstrate change to show the applicability of the major to

It is typically taken by Freshman in their first quarter at PSU.Therefore, the course has the challenge, as discussed above, of a wide range of studentbackgrounds in math, science, writing, reading, etc. This course therefore tries to instill commonpractices and knowledge that will be needed in the years to come. This leaves the course with awide range of topics including career paths within electrical and computer engineering, researchand writing as a scientist, digital

shiftedtheir abilities to successfully solve engineering problems. In recent years, industry employershave reported a gap in academic vs industry performance standards, attributed to new graduatesfulfilling technical skills, but falling short in other attributes of real-world practice. Core designcompetencies refer to a set of fundamental skills that, if acquired, ensure student success in bothacademic and industry environments, given that any deficiencies are identified and addressedwith interventions early in the design curriculum [6]. Semi-experiential learning is a documentedapproach to strengthen competency as a practicing engineering, so an integrated program tointroduce students to the nuances of design early in their academic careers would be

Implementation Strategies: Encourage educators to use examples and case studies to connect the EDP stages with real-world applications, fostering student engagement and practical understanding. This approach can foster student engagement by demonstrating the relevance of engineering design to everyday life and diverse career paths.Broader ImpactsThis study contributes to the growing body of research on pre-college engineering education by sheddinglight on how educators perceive and teach the EDP. The findings emphasize the critical need for targetedprofessional development and adaptable teaching resources that bridge gaps in iterative, evaluative, andcollaborative practices. By addressing these gaps, educators can better prepare

These challenges include reduced student motivations, as they prioritizegraded activities and often treat project management as peripheral, and curriculum overload, astime constraints prevent deeper
