development program in which middle school teachers participate in an intensive summer research experience in computer science and engineering labs, build curriculum based on the laboratory research content that they learn, participate in lesson study, and implement new curriculum in their middle classrooms. The second program (5 years) is a high school teacher RET program with similar components. This paper contains a combined report of results of both of the RET programs. In these personal spaces, it is difficult for students to get help from classmates orteaching assistants (TAs) when encountering problems. As a result, collaborative learning isdifficult and rare. Due to their compact size, lessthan 10 by 10 inches for most modules, LC-DLMs have been employed in a variety of classroomorientations including traditional classrooms containing tablet arm chair desks and largerlaboratory spaces. Compared to traditional laboratory teaching equipment, LC-DLMs are simpleto transport, construct, and deconstruct. Activities were led by engineering students andfaculty. IRB approved protocols were followed. The total number of participants in the campsduring summer 2018 was 62 that included 20 in the Young Women in Engineering camp, 17 inthe First Generation camp and 25 in the open-enrollment Introduction to Engineering camp.Seven campers did not have parental consent and we did not have complete data for eight.
