quantitativedata. The two areas that fewer students reported having skills were in project management andcommunication, particularly communicating outside of engineering. Overall, the sophomorestended to report similar numbers of team members with each professional skill as the seniors.Whereas the seniors could clearly distinguish between the professional skill areas, thesophomores were not adept at this.To understand the impact of the team asset-mapping activity, we compared the sophomores’scores on items from a peer evaluation conducted twice during the semester. Early in thesemester, students tended to report some difficulty managing conflicts related to team tasks, butby the end of the semester, significantly fewer teams did so.We also describe an asset

, turning, welding, tapping, and threading components. • One additional lab period could be added if needed. • Additional pieces of equipment could be used, but they must already be at the university. • Similar materials must be used: aluminum for machining and steel for welding. • The cost of the materials should not be significantly increased from the current year’s lab. Each team submitted a report describing the proposed product and the sequence of lab activitiesneeded to fabricate each component. Each team also presented a 5-minute “sales pitch” to theirclassmates. The students peer evaluated the projects in four categories: feasibility, cost, presentation quality, and appeal. The highest scoring project (Fig. 5) was created in

movie and television examples are becoming dated anddo not resonate with new faculty. Additionally, determining one’s place in Lowman’s modelremains difficult. As evidenced by the authors’ experience writing this paper, debating where anindividual sits in a category, while entertaining, is not a simple task. This paper describesdevelopment of a rubric to assess teaching in both of Lowman’s dimensions and applies therubric to contemporary movie and television teachers. In this paper, the authors present a summary of Lowman’s Two Dimensional Model of EffectiveCollege Teaching1. Next, development of a rubric to assess which style of instruction bestdescribes an instructor is presented. The rubric is applied to several contemporary teachers

reflections. The cycle was augmented by Greenaway’s Active Reviewing Cycle,a model which provides a different way to examine experiential learning [19]. The keywordsfrom this cycle are shown within parentheses in Figure 1. FIGURE 1. KOLB EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CYCLE WITH GREENWAY’S KEYWORDSThe concrete experience stage is used to engage students in performing some sort of activitywhere they apply their ideas and skills. Experiences from activities generate facts – the events, moments, and details associated with the activity. Next, the reflective observation stageencourages students to reflect on their experiences through mechanisms such as self-evaluation,peer discussion, and instructor feedback. Reflections generate feelings, an
