Manley and Edgar C. Clausen University of Arkansas, Ralph E. Martin Department of Chemical EngineeringAbstractThe junior-level draining of a tank experiment has been given more flexibility by employingsharp-edged, rounded-edge and straight-bore orifices. Steady-state experiments were carried outto determine the discharge coefficients for the orifices, yielding coefficients which ranged from0.63-0.83. Transient experiments were

mold was washed and cured as done previously inRef. [16]. The mold was washed in 99% IPA for a total of 50 minutes. During washing, the moldwas shaken on a digital shaker at 160 rpm. Additionally, it was removed from the IPA and blownoff with compressed air every 10 minutes. This helped to remove the excess resin. Once washed, the mold was placed into the UV oven to finalize the resin solidification. It was exposed to UVlight for four cycles, totaling 40 minutes. Finally, the mold was placed into a conventional ovenovernight at 130°C. This finalized any chemical reactions occurring within the resin, allowing forPDMS to cure on the interface of the mold and PDMS.Figure 7: (A) 3D-printed plastic master mold for the channel modules. of 2-5 mm was provided for thisresearch. Figure 1 - The polypropylene waste used in this study: (a) site visit; (b) collected sample. The critical inherent property of PP is its melting point, which significantly influences thebehavior of PP within the HMA mixture. When incorporated using the dry method, PP canfunction as a constituent particle, a modifier for the mixture, a modifier for binding, or acombination of these roles [7]. According to prior literature sources [19,30,32-35], the assumedmelting point range for the PP employed in this study was 160°C to 165°C. To allow the meltingof PP and better PP-aggregate adhesion, several studies used temperature beyong the meltingpoint [15,29,32, 38]. Therefore, to ensure the proper melting

Further, while the underrepresentation of AfricanAmerican, Latinx, and Native American engineers increases as level of education increases, support focused on retention of graduate students from diverse backgrounds is limited. This projectaimed to promote inclusive teaching practices within a graduate program in chemical engineering. The project involved a) fostering inclusive teaching practices in select core graduate courses, b)offering workshops on inclusive teaching practices for faculty and graduate teaching assistants, and c) data collection from students on department climate, sense of belonging, classroomengagement, and barriers faced. was a significant predictor of happiness (b = -0.53, p <0.001), while MLQ-Search did not demonstrate a significant effect (b = -0.22, p = 0.05).Similarly, the overall regression model exploring the predictors of perceived stress was alsostatistically significant (F (2, 52) = 14.70, p < 0.001). This indicates that MLQ-Presence andMLQ-Search together explained a significant proportion of variance in perceived stress. However, MLQ-Presence was identified as a significant predictor of stress (b = -0.57, p <0.001), while MLQ-Search did not exhibit a significant effect (b = -0.11, p = 0.35). Thesefindings emphasize the importance of MLQ-Presence as a significant predictor of both happinessand perceived stress

strategies isstated in this paper. The effects of this redesign were measured through course evaluation andstudent feedback. This paper's goals are to a) provide a formwork to redesign undergraduate STEMcourses using backward design and active learning pedagogy b) reflect on the obstacles hinderingthe future application of these methods. Student feedback shows that the application of activelearning strategies for formative assessment increases students' engagement, improvescommunication, and provides the students with an opportunity to reflect on their understanding.Implementing the backward design method provides students with clear communication ofexpectations and what they are expected to learn throughout the course.KeywordsActive-learning
