. No plus or minus grades areawarded.In the previous seven offerings of the introductory transportation courses the average courseGPA for the 177 students was 2.97 with a standard deviation of 0.102. Under the breadthstructure 43% of the students received B grades and 30% received A grades. Most semesters theinstructor lowered the cutoff between A and B grades to raise the number of students receiving Agrades. For the pilot study the course GPA was 3.74 with 71% of the students receiving Agrades. development of each cohort and a chance for students to reflect on their collegeexperience with each other.The Engineering Bridge Survey To gauge the importance of the different activities during the Engineering section of theSB program, students that attended this section in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were given a survey toshow which activities during the Bridge program were the most important to them. The fullsurvey is included in Appendix B. Students were asked to rate the importance of 22 differentactivities. In each case the students were asked these questions at least several months after theprogram itself, once they had some distance and perspective. , students were able to explore interests in various engineering fields and applyresearch strategies and fundamental engineering concepts to daily life items.The student short answers to open-ended questions suggested important conclusions aboutdifferent camp components; a) the ‘What did you like best about ESF?’ question indicated thataround ten students liked most the hands-on research experience during the ESF camp while theremaining students expressed different factors such as learning new software, professor andgraduate assistant involvement; b) a lack of time for project documentation as well as oralpreparation and long camp days appeared to be the ESF camp least liked components, assuggested in responses to the ‘What did you like least about
