The lectures were punctuated by multiple-choice conceptual questions or open-endedquestions to test students’ understanding of the material. In the multiple-choice conceptualquestions, often the distracters (incorrect responses) reflect typical student misconceptions.These questions are good indicators of students’ conceptual understanding, especially infundamental courses. The open-ended questions provide the senior-level students an opportunityto improve their critical thinking
