students' motivation,problem-solving skills, and creative thinking [1], [2]. PBL provides students the opportunity to apply theirknowledge to solve a real-world challenging problem [3]. PBL is usually achieved when students work inteams. The capacity to work effectively in teams is one of the highly demanded skills in the workforce[4]. This need has been recognized by both the academics and program accreditation entities like ABETwhich listed the ability to function in multidisciplinary team as an outcome that engineering graduatesmust have practiced and a skill that they have acquired by the time they graduate [4]. While academics tryto educate students on the essentials of team dynamics and promote a collaborative environment, challenges and

professional skills related courses in their curricula. These include 3% of EM and 10%of ME programs. Another remarkable finding is that although, on average, one course is offered per eachcategory for EM programs, ME programs offer either more options for courses in each categoryfor professional skills or require more than one course per category. The analysis shows that there is still a low percentage of engineering programs that offerformal courses on professional skills, or which include these skills in other technical-orientedcourses. Similarly, a low variety of options/courses is available to target specific categories ofprofessional skills. Because all analyzed programs are ABET accredited, they are required toassess and report

TeachingTo implement the hands-on, inexpensive experimentation in STEM online learning suggested by[16], the instructors chose the 3E model for best practices. Expectations, Experimentation, andEngagement make up the 3E model. The three areas of knowledge—cognitive, psychomotor, andeffective—must be considered in the laboratory learning objectives and expectancies. Throughlab tasks that actively engage students in scientific investigations, experimentation aims tosupport the development of the necessary technical and critical thinking abilities. For the ECPimplementation at Morgan State University, the inexpensive portable device used is the M1Kshown in Figure 3. Synchronous technologies must be employed in the online environment tohelp students

mentioned that most of the research done on CBL is fromSpain and the United States, followed by Mexico and Sweden [3]. The authors divided itsanalysis into four topics; the first is how CBL is used as a background of educational in-tervention; the second discusses the results of such intervention; the third analyzes CBLwith other theories or teaching techniques; finally, the fourth focuses on different theories. The latter two are important because they may conduct how to implement CBL in highereducation from a complex systems perspective. Some of the benefits that have been high-lighted by implementing CBL to students are networking with industry, improvement oftheir technical skills, working in a real-world environment with multidisciplinary teams

Students are asked to demonstrate their conceptual understanding throughtechnical and creative writing assignments, encouraging students to relate their own meaning andintegrate their own functional grasp of a certain topic. Technical writing assignments supportcritical thinking skills development, where creative writing assignments support imaginative andcreative thinking skills development. Creative writing assignments require students to completethree graded poetry-writing assignments. While the first poem is about themselves, the secondand third poems are technical poems that focus on course material. Also, the students arerequired to complete reflection questionnaires that aim to understand how they

During this time, the LeanSystems Engineering course, a core requirement for IE juniors and a technical elective forMechanical Engineering students, underwent a transformation. Typical Lean Manufacturingcourses focus on improving operational performance, not focusing on the triple bottom line ofSustainability: economic growth, environmental preservation, and social responsibility [3][4].The Lean Systems Engineering course at QU IE was no different and had previously

We observe inhis statement that with the support received in the workshops from the learning outcomesenhancement cycle, Isaac clearly understood how he was operating and how many tools hehad acquired in his studies. However, before the workshops, he was unaware of the practicaland technical tools to carry out his work as an industrial engineer. As a result, he performedpoorly in his internship because he

. Preliminary results indicate that the addition of formative assessments havehelped students better communicate the problem and solution to a wider audience in their projectdeliverables. A revised instructional model is presented, along with future evaluation plans.IntroductionAs engineering students move into the workplace, their success depends on their technical skillsand ability to communicate. Studies have shown that based on their position within anorganization, engineers may spend up to fifty percent of their time writing [1]. While writing hasbeen presumed to be part of an engineer’s job, it has not always been considered a centralcomponent of the engineering profession [2], [3]. The role of writing in engineering has inspiredseveral studies
