VIEWPOINTS TO DEVELOP QUALITY POLICIES IN ENGINEERING PROGRAMS IN EUROPEAN HIGHER EDUCATION AREAAbstractQuality assurance in Higher Education is by no means only a European concern. All over theworld there is an increasing interest in quality and standards, reflecting both the rapid growth ofhigher education and its cost to the public and the private purse. Accordingly, if Europe is toachieve its aspiration to be the most dynamic and knowledge-based economy in the world, thenEuropean Higher Education will need to demonstrate: it takes the quality of its programmes andawards seriously and is willing to put into place the means of assuring and demonstrating thatquality. The initiatives and

objectives for SDGs in engineering course context(Research Question 2.) How can the learning objectives for SDGs achievement be assessedwithin an engineering course?Assessment of learning objectives for sustainable development can be, and should be, conductedat multiple levels, varying from individual, class, program, institutional, large-scale national, andinternational levels [14]. While a few large-scale sustainability-related assessments such as thePISA International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) [24] have been implemented, there have, until now, been only a limited number of course-level delivery of sustainability-related learning objectives. introductory section. Firstly, a mutual understanding of the institutional purpose of HE and, secondly a shared academic cultural understanding of the needs of engineering students. Thissecond additional factor entails an evaluative and joint response to the questions: ‘What shouldthey know?’ and ‘What should they become?’’ and is analogous to Humboldt’s concept of Bildung11 . In order to internationalise engineering education and improve engineers’ mobility an importantfoundation is the development of effective institutional partnerships. This paper has shown howtwo such partnerships have been developed.Bibliography1. Beerkens, E. Model for Teaching Physics and Mathematics to Engineering Students Session topic: Innovation and best practices around the globeAbstractThis paper presents details of the implementation of an educational innovation in an internationalcontext. In Mexico, we designed a classroom that we call the ACE classroom. ACE comes fromthe Spanish acronym for “Aprendizaje Centrado en el Estudiante” (Student-Centered Learning);also, the pronunciation of the acronym in Spanish is identical to that of the verb “do”, and thusconveys the idea that students learn by doing in this classroom. The ACE classroom we designedis similar to the SCALE-UP (Student-Centered Active Learning Environment for UndergraduatePrograms) classroom
