, instructors have been slow to adopt current research and best-practices inteaching methods [1], including online and virtual techniques, mostly due to the concern thatsuch a hands-on and innovative subject cannot be taught or learned through a screen. Due to theCOVID-19 pandemic, and the transition to Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) [2], engineeringinstructors were forced to adopt new teaching practices, including technologies. The answers arecomputer-tabulated and displayed via projector to the class as a histogram, providing valuableformative assessment data to both students and instructors. Beyond the two instructors who designed the dynamics OEMPs presented in thispaper, our research team includes a researcher who has also implemented OEMPs in theircourses since 2018, a researcher who has studied OEMPs since 2018, and two instructors whohave implemented OEMPs in their courses since 2019. One of the most significant outcomes ofthis feedback was an emphasis on the value of working through the problem before giving it tostudents. “Fundamentals ofCircuit Analysis” course through two platforms, Emona and LabsLand VISIR, which we havedescribed elsewhere [12, 13]. In short, these remote laboratory platforms provide a digitalconnection to real-world circuitry and the interfaces are designed to mimic real-world circuitdesign and instrumentation, such as an oscilloscope and multimeter.Even though research on the learning side of online laboratories has been on the rise for the last20 years, there is still much room for investigation. In particular, research with rigorous studydesigns is needed to go beyond student satisfaction surveys and innovation case studies [6]. . All cadets take a core curriculum of 31 courses, called core courses, ranging fromEnglish and Philosophy to Military History to Calculus. Beyond the core curriculum, twenty-two different majors are offered, including seven accredited engineering programs: ComputerScience, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, SystemsEngineering and Environmental Engineering. All seven programs request accreditation visits byABET on the same cycle, which helps consolidate the institutional effort. Six of the programsundergo a review by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) and the ComputingAccreditation Commission (CAC) reviews the CS Program. There is some synergy to be gainedfrom combining the visits into a joint review
