We could readilyimagine most of the pairs floundering for 90 minutes, getting increasingly frustrated, and havinglittle or nothing to show for their efforts, and we were relieved when the exercise exceeded ourbest hopes the first time we did it and delighted when it went even better the second time. This is not unexpected when it isrealized that the crystallography of the seed determines if and in which direction the nanorodemerges. By recrystallizing the seeds on a substrate it is likely that all seeds have the samecrystallographic orientation due to the heteroepitaxial relationship formed with the substrate. The qualitative and quantitative evaluations have demonstratedthe course’s effectiveness in fostering student preparedness and confidence in robotics-specificprogramming contexts. Future efforts will focus on three key areas: (1) conducting longitudinalstudies to track the long-term impact of the course on students’ academic and professionaltrajectories, (2) refining the course structure based on ongoing feedback from students andfaculty, and (3) incorporating emerging programming technologies and trends to ensure thecourse remains relevant and effective.
