To begin to answer these questions, we interviewed fiveengineering graduate students engaged in research in a Gen-4 ERC. SoutheasternU.S. Two hundred thirty-two elementary students and 17 teachers in urban, rural, and suburbanafterschool programs participated in the implementation and research. These unique programsserve students from many underrepresented groups and communities - some programs serve onlygirls, others - only African American students, one program focused on students with learningdisabilities, and two more – on supporting students and families who came to the United Statesas refugees. Participants' demographic information is provided in Table 1.
