philosophy.After all, the so-called soft sciences have no findings which are certain, but rathercompeting sets of assertions that arise from one or another set of values.This paper argues that engineering in general is not entitled to the degree of certaintytypically associated with it. This point is illustrated by analyzing eight topical areas ofengineering design, showing the limits of certainty in each case. Further, a case is madethat the recognition of this inherent uncertainty should be acknowledged and taught inengineering ethics classes. In the first instance, understanding the limits of knowledge inengineering is a useful antidote to a riskier approach which might tend to ignoreunknowns. attitudes(based on feedback), seem to indicate that the format changes implemented in this course havehad a positive effect overall. It was difficult to assess the effect of clickers alone because datawas available for only one semester (Fall 2005). However, based on course history from Fall2001 to Spring 2005, the raw class average remained relatively constant without the addition ofclickers, while a 3.9% increase in the Fall 2005 semester indicates a slight improvement instudent performance with the use of this technology. The reorganization of the laboratorystructure seems to have led to a significant change in material retention and student attitudes,with an 11.5% increase in the raw class average over the course of two semesters

Summary We have demonstrated the viability of fabricating a CdTe quantum dot hybrid solar cellarchitecture using an inkjet printing process. Crucial to this demonstration was the synthesis ofmonodisperse CdTe quantum dots exhibiting quantum confinement effects and their subsequentincorporation into an ink formulation. This has contributed to many students, both those with and withoutexposure to advanced mathematics in high school, facing challenges related to inadequateunderstanding of foundational math.
