Latino-specific groups. After these criteria weremet, potential promotores were interviewed to assess whether or not they demonstrated anunderstanding of and appreciation for HLX+ cultural values and exhibited certain characteristics.Ultimately, only 13 promotores were selected per year. If selected, the promotores were hiredand given responsibility for approximately ten mentees. The criteria to participate as a mentee are not quite as rigorous. Still, mentees must identify asHLX+, have a GPA below 2.5, commit to meeting at least one hour weekly with their designatedpromotor, and proactively access an array of campus services. Once accepted into the program, mentees remain eligible until they complete two consecutive semesters with a semester GPA

For this study, we also consider student performances in courses, both in aggregate andindividual formats, to assess student fulfillment of course objectives. Across all four courses, students performed exceptionally well, with median class GPAs all being above 3.8. All studentswho participated in this study (detailed below) did well in their respective courses, meetingcourse objectives and producing strong work. The results of the interventions will be reported in another paper.ResultsThe analysis of the interviews and focus group discussions conducted with Black alumni led tothree (3) major themes to describe their experiences during their time as students at theinstitution. These themes summarized in Figure 1 were further explored through surveys withcurrent students to assess the prevalence and persistence of those issues. We summarize here themain findings by theme. Thus, revisions were made to theworkshop design and “run of show” support documentation, including a backchannelcommunication method among the presentation team, reminders to enable auto-transcription as abackup for interpreting, and real-time checking on quality of ASL interpretation. These changesimproved the workshop experience for all participants, not only those who are DHH. Ensuringthat

These evaluators specifically look at a project’s potential forcommercial success, its potential for producing job growth and its ability to generate revenue.Bender suggests a number of factors universities should consider when engaging in partnership, including the location of the business, its size and profitability, whether alumni are involved, andspecifically what types of degreed positions the company hires [5].Overall, however, very little literature exists that details specific metrics or standards universitiescan use to assess collaborations with industry. However, a significant amount of literature existsacross disciplines that details both how the changing

The leader takes charge of decision- making, insists on compliance and keeps a close watch on their collaborators to ensure they follow guidelines and fulfill job duties.(3) Advisory: This leadership style involves taking into account the input and opinions of team members when making decisions. The retreat organizers allowed for spacein the programming to organically grow initiatives, and in relation to the goals-activities-products-assessment (GAPA) framework activity [4], it was observed that we often correlatesuccesses but rarely discuss failures. The envisioned program was broken down by the authorsinto four stages of development: creation of an initial pool of discussed failure modes, a surveyto curate additional failure modes from the EMERGE cohort, a survey to rank collected failuremodes amongst the participants, and a workshop to discuss ways in which observed failuremodes persist, have been successfully

sustainable energy through salinitygradient [2]. Prospects for the various energy sources were assessed after the 1973 oil crisis, andSidney Loeb [3] introduced the idea of PRO in the 1970’s. However, research slowed down in the80s and 90s due to the expensive cost of the available membranes, which would make osmoticpower generation financially unviable. More recently interest in searching new clean and non-periodic energy sources resulted in the construction of several large or small-scale pilot SGP powerplants [4, 5]. Salinity gradient can provide us with a very large source of clean energy. Riversaround the world with an average flow of 1.2×10 m3/s have the potential to produce up to 2.5 TWof energy. This is about 13 percent of the current world's

Triangulation of Quantitative and Qualitative Findings: Once we have conductedboth qualitative and quantitative data analysis, we will triangulate the findings of both types ofanalyses. Our team has developed a qualitative protocol to triangulate biometric data withqualitative excerpts [48]. This protocol temporally aligns graphic visualizations of biometrics withqualitative excerpts and then analyzes data simultaneously to assess for convergence anddivergence. Since the context in this study has changed, the triangulation protocol will be adaptedto help answer the current research questions.4. If it calls for other activities (e.g., producingdetailed solutions, determining if reflections accurately assess student knowledge) it mayconsume more faculty time.RQ1b. Does the metacognitive approach result in less time spent by students? 7The flip side of the time question is how much time the new approach takes the students. Thefear is that if they are not going to be graded on their solutions, they will breeze through thework. The two Breid papers [2, 3] reported that most students

Digital video games have been usedin educational settings for the purpose of learning [9], training [10], assessment [11], andexperience [12]. Using games for education promotes interactivity, engagement and increasesmotivation [13]. Gamification has also been shown to have a positive effect on the response rateof user feedback [14]. This fast-growing trend is aided by the vast improvement in hardwarecapable of rendering increasingly realistic and high-definition virtual environments. Through theuse of VR technology, users are able to experience learning environments that were never beforepossible. Because virtual environments are interactive and the content

Students often end up confused about the limit statecalculations, unable to connect the written mathematical formulas to physical behavior. On assessments, the instructor requires the students to sketch failure paths for the various modesof failure. However, students seemingly have difficulty identifying where the basic tensionmember limit state failures occur, let alone the more complex connection limit states. Doing so involves addressing related questions such as: (1) what is theunderstanding of these applications and their impact on students in terms of interest, knowledgeof applications, and professional identity formation? (2) What is the relationship betweenstudents’ identity and course performance and assessments? To assess which factors affected the number of Strong andGood connections students self-reported, several ANOVA tests were conducted. These tests foundthat gender, feeling supported in the class, and class offering (honors vs. standard) yieldedsignificant differences between groups.
