match well. The compressedtime period of the NAU courses at CQUPT provides some additional flexibility for unforeseenproblems, such as travel documents processing or illness. After the completion of the lectures bythe NAU professors, there are several weeks that are used by CQUPT to require supplementalrelated projects and laboratory learning experiences for the students. These are lumped togetherinto a single item near the end of Table 1.managementAt NAU, the 3+1 program is managed in several key ways. The program is overseen by the Deanof the College of Engineering, Forestry, and Natural Sciences (CEFNS) and administered bySICCS, the academic entity within CEFNS that contains the NAU EE program. centers onactive-learning, problem-solving, and team work.2. IntroductionIntroduction to Mechanical Design is a required course for all sophomores. It is intended tointroduce students to all related topics in design. To this end, a solid background in engineeringgraphics is required. While the course is quite common for all engineering programs, whatmakes it special is that it has been paired with an English writing class that is centered ontechnical writing. Most engineering programs in the States have tried pairing a lab course withthe writing class. To the best knowledge of the authors, our class has never been experimentedin other institutes. Because of the newly added component, the credit for the course has beenincreased to four instead of

Technology (RHIT) has been offering Optical Engineering BS and MSdegrees since 1990 and 1985 respectively. The MS program draws only a few students annuallyand around 2010 we worried that we would not have enough students to run the program. At thesame time the university in Korea with which we had ties, Seoul Tech, changed its mission from‘Technical University’ to ‘National University’. The new designation meant it had to expand itsgraduate programs. The time was right to develop the dual degree program which hassuccessfully solved our mutual problems. Working together the students receive an MS inOptical Engineering (OE) from Rose-Hulman and a degree in Mechanical Design and Robotic(MDRE) from Seoul Tech.In this paper we describe our international

Under this initiative, students fromCoventry University (UK) and Ryerson University (Canada) designed a building in VirtualTeams. The former assumed the role of civil engineers, while the latter acquired the role ofarchitects. Tools such as Skype and Dropbox were used. It was determined that the virtualactivity did not have an impact on students’ performance. Participants were satisfied and statedthat this experience will bring to them great employability opportunities.4.3 Collaboration between Virginia Tech (USA) and University of Southern California (USA) 29.These universities co-designed a Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) course
