All BME courses are patient-centered, which is atypical of medical device and medical device regulation courses. Active recruitment was done in the Collegeof Communications, College of Fine Arts, and School of Engineering in an effort of creating acohort that reflected a diverse set of design disciplines. Based on ethnographic observations of pairs of graduate andundergraduate engineers working in four research laboratories, we investigate how students learncrucial research skills from each other.
