that were available and used on a previous project at Lawrence Tech in 2007, andintegrate these into a viable power system. This on-going project is a portable PV poweredprototype system with energy storage and various energy outputs. We have now physicallydemonstrated this integrated system’s ability to capture solar energy and convert it to DC power,to deliver 110 volts AC, and both 24 volt DC and 12 volt DC output power in both laboratoryand out-door experimental setups. Another important aspect of this project is that the PV powersource is expandable. The basic stand-alone cart has two PV modules (at approximately 100-watts each), but the design also allows for an additional four more PV modules (yielding to up to~600 watts total

which twelve freshman and sophomore physics andengineering students from U.S. universities complete research internships in themultidisciplinary field of nanoscience and nanoengineering in leading Japaneselaboratories [16]. Within this PIRE grant, NanoJapan students conducted research relatedto aspects of nanoscience and nanoengineering, ranging from synthesis of nanomaterialsthrough nanodevice fabrication to a variety of electrical, magnetic, and opticalcharacterization measurements [17] [18]. The program first received five years of fundingin 2006 and was selected for a five-year renewal in 2010; the final year of the programwas 2015. . Silva is cur- rently involved in two educational projects involving the development of online assessments for computer- based testing and creation of collaborative programming activities for computer science classes. She is also involved in a project that aims to create a software that facilitates collaborative problem-solving ac- tivities in classrooms, through which both the instructors and students learn more about collaboration skills. Silva is very passionate about teaching and improving the classroom experience for both students and instructors. She has been included in the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent five times and has received the Engineering Council Outstanding Advisor Award every year since 2014
