databases was based on our goal tosynthesize education-related literature within engineering by structuring a search that yieldsmultidisciplinary results. The systematized literature review included an initial screening of 567abstracts and resulted in the synthesis of 23 papers. We identified the characteristics and commongoals of these programs. the 2023 SLE showed that students had littleknowledge of the environmental science and environmental engineering professions prior to thethree-hour workshop; however, students stated they had a fundamental understanding of eachprofession upon completing the workshop. Additionally, students found that the water treatmentfilter building challenge was generally a fun and useful approach to understanding whatenvironmental engineers and scientists do in their professions. , learning power skills, such asteamwork, can pose a significant challenge for engineering-minded students. This often results infrustration for students and instructors alike. To address this issue, we implemented an innovativeapproach toward group lab writing in a lab class for 35 junior-level Chemical Engineeringstudents. In this study, individual contributions were worth 30% toward the group-written labreport. Students were required to complete their individual contribution submission as acompletion grade 24 hours before the group-written report was due. MethodsResearch SettingIn this research, we focus on one section of an introductory computer science course for first-year engineering students at a private, highly selective research university in the northeasternUnited States. Because the course is for engineering students, there is a heavy emphasis onmodeling, data analysis, and statistics. The course is also a testbed for the inclusion of ethics andsociotechnical thinking within engineering classrooms. The section in this study
