Edwin Loche wrote in 1960 that a person’s intention to work toward a goal that was specific, achievable and had feedback was a great motivator for most people.8 He felt that goals not only tell the person what has to be done but they give a good approximation of the amount of effort required. Also, as well as goal setting works, it works better when the goal is higher rather than lower so long as the goal was accepted by the student.
