Specifically,in the province of Buenos Aires, a survey showed that at least 1,046 people transported andcollected scrap metal, 619 melted metals, 728 burned cables, and 448 recycled batteries in 2019(ibid.). In particular, electrical and electronic devices are not designed to be efficiently reused orrecycled, and they contain hazardous materials. The people who collect, dismantle, and recyclee-waste usually work in unhealthy conditions. Furthermore, their practices often result inunintentional harmful chemical exposure to their communities, particularly women and children[54], and also contribute to adverse environmental impacts. At Rose-Hulman, Michelle is co-leading a project to infuse an entrepreneurial-mindset in undergraduate students’ learning, and a project to improve teaming by teaching psychological safety in engineering education curricula. Michelle also mentors undergraduate researchers to investigate the removal of stormwater pollutants in engineered wetlands.
