(DFPL) technique [1]-[9] based on sensor nodes set up as radiotransceivers to transmit and receive radio frequency signals within the wireless sensor network(WSN). The images of the objects or entities (also called targets or obstructions) are formed fromthe attenuation in received signal strength (RSS) of the radio frequency signal along the path orlink between each transmitting sensor node and each of the receiver nodes. The presence ofstationary or non-stationary entities within the radio frequency network leads to changes in themeasured RSS levels at the receiver nodes in the network. Radio frequency signals can travelthrough physical obstructions, but unlike x-rays, introduce significant non-line-of-sight ormultipath propagation. In indoor

effective for the establishment. The rack will be placed outside, meaning that it needs to be weatherproof, and it needs to be outof the way of major traffic going in and out of the building. The rack also needs to have theability to secure the boards. The rack cannot be permanently fixed to one spot. After constraining the problem, metrics were created in order to evaluate the effectiveness of thelongboard rack. Shown below in Figure 1 are the results collected from a survey sent out to thecollege of engineering by the team. The survey will be discussed in more detail in thebackground section of the report. The results shown are in response to the question, “What timedo you longboard to class?” Figure 1: Frequency of longboarders

contexts in which machine learning operates. We report the connections theysaw and discuss the relevance of machine learning as an example of reasoning about complexengineered systems for young students and for teachers.IntroductionHumans are frequently embedded in contexts in which machines learn from their everydayactions. However, constructing explanations about the underlying causal mechanisms of amachine learning system (such as predictive text when texting a friend, or image recognition incollections of photographs) requires individuals to examine an engineered system in ways thatconsider parts of the system and the relationships among multiple parts of that system [1], [2].These reasoning abilities are germane to engineering disciplines

difference in these purecircular motion problems versus one-dimensional motion along the x or y axes is that theresultant acceleration vector will have two components. In addition, an angle will need to be calculated between these two acceleration components. There will be no formulas that contain standard rotational variables such as ω and α.Also, a new notation for the introduction of time will be introduced. For example, with an initialvelocity of 1 m/s and a given tangential acceleration how long will it take (t) to reach a finalvelocity of 4m/s? The notation will be as follows (1m/s, 0s) and (4m/s,ts)This alternative method eliminates the need for plotting variables in a two-dimensional graphwith time on the horizontal axis. Except for the

forengineers focus on languages other than Python.I developed and taught a new course “Python for Chemical Engineering calculations”, which wasoffered in Spring 2021 as a 3-credit undergraduate elective 1 . The goal of this course is tointroduce undergraduate chemical engineering students to Python (including the numerical andscientific modules, NumPy and SciPy) and demonstrate how it can be used for solving a spectrumof chemical engineering problems. The example problems were taken from the undergraduatechemical engineering curriculum, e.g., from such courses as Chemical EngineeringThermodynamics, Fluid Flow, Kinetics and Reactor Design, etc. Lectures and practical sessionswere complemented by six guest lectures delivered by engineers working in

The undergraduate students at Pennsylvania State University where I teach getinvolved in research usually conducted in the summer period for an 8-week or 10-week duration. Thename of the program is “Multi-campus Research Experience for Undergraduates” (MC-REU) and it isadministered by the College of Engineering at Penn State.Similarly, there are many academic institutions in the United States that got involved with researchundertaken by undergraduate students. The goals of the undergraduate research programs are (1) topromote undergraduate students participating in research early in their academic

year.IntroductionSchools and school buildings are critical instruments for advancing knowledgeabout sustainability. Active research, teaching, and outreach activities insustainability-focused topics offer a strategic and innovative approach to cultivatea new generation of STEM leaders. To leverage these facilities, we established aBuilding Education Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program. This RET site waspursued as a regenerative strategy for developing unique teacher-led research in their schoolfacilities to: (1) engage teachers and students in the use of data collection and managementpractices related to building performance and occupant health; (2) provide a tangible andsustainability-focused context for science and math education; and (3) involve

Generally the question arises, what to do and what not to do under differentcircumstances. What is legal and what is ethical? In this paper, the role of professionalethics in teaching engineering design is discussed. The material presented here is part oftopics which are taught in a two course sequence of Mechanical Systems Design at NJITand is considered in detail in my forthcoming book [1] titled, ”Mechanical Design:Fundamentals to Capstone “ being published soon by NJIT.Engineers are responsible to build things, make them perform better, create solutions toproblems facing the society and also train other engineers. success in anengineering degree program [1-4]. Students with low spatial visualization skills (SVS) are morelikely to leave engineering. Since women and underrepresented groups are disproportionatelyaffected by low SVS, providing students with the opportunity to train and practice their spatialskills is vital to maintaining diversity in engineering [4-7].The Purdue Spatial Visualization Test of Rotations (PSVT:R) is a standardized test commonlyused to assess spatial ability [8]. A score of 70% or higher is considered passing. Students whoscore below 70% are identified as having low SVS and at-risk for leaving the engineeringprogram. These students are usually encouraged or required to participate in a spatial skillstraining program to improve

statistical link between time management strategies and student success. Britton and Tesser[1], for example, identified a direct correlation between self-reported time management strategiesand both standardized test scores and four-year grade point averages. A study from Macan et al.[2] with 165 undergraduate students confirmed a similar linkage, while also suggesting thatproficiency in time management may also be positively correlated with lower levels of stress, aninsight that has been affirmed in numerous subsequent studies [3, 4]. Prior research has further established that the phenomenon of poor time management waswidespread in higher education well before the pandemic. Indeed, an influential 1992 studyconcluded that as high as 70% of

These courses teachstudents how to use commercially available Computer Aided Engineering software formultidisciplinary system design and optimization [1-5]. With such acquired skills, studentsconceptualize complex engineering design problems in virtual spaces and solve those by usingCAE software (i.e., Autodesk Fusion 360). Generative design and optimization, along withstructural and thermal analysis, are covered in the course with real-world

Data communication andnetworking is a core course for the Computer Engineering Technology (CPET) program in ourschool. The course introduces the networking layered model and covers technology at each layerin a bottom-up approach. Teaching latest technologies of data communication and networkingwith hands-on experience is critical to the CPET curriculum.
