Immediately after theinterviews, researchers created memos as a space for reflection and initial data analysis. Theresearch team completed two rounds of coding and refining the interview data [6]. navigation-based class project focused on principles of haptics and promotinginclusive design thinking. With that in mind, a number of design requirements had to be met forthe device. First, the design needed an easily changed component system for rapid adjustments,providing each student team with the ability to modify the HapConnect in their own fashion.With the condensed timeframe for the learning module, simple motor changes were desiredinstead of in-depth code adjustments to reflect physical changes to the device. If inequities that occur beforecollege divert students from pursuing STEM degrees, changes to university programs will havelittle impact.The current work is a quantitative study focused on studying the systemic factors that impact therepresentation of women among chemical engineering graduates. ’ responses are presented below.Concept Representation: This theme discusses how learners perceived the VR labs to havedisplayed learning concepts they were designed for. Some of the participants commented thatthe VR labs displayed the intended learning concepts in a way that made them mentallyrelatable. Their perception of the VR for the lab reflected perceptions about the utility valueand tool efficacy of the VR labs. More than half of the participants thought the VR labs gavea good visual representation of abstract concepts introduced during classroom lectures. Intervention: This workshop introduces a modified version of the5Ds of bystander intervention that is focused on responding to gender bias incidents.“Ally Tips” Repository: We send out a weekly “tips” email that focuses on a different sub-topicwithin allyship each week. Each tip is formatted with a “reflect” section that introduces theconcept and data, a “learn” section that explains how it manifests and how to recognize it, and a“change” section that suggests how to act on the new information. The number ofnew faculty with disabilities is also expected to increase because greater numbers of individualswith disabilities are graduating with PhDs in STEM and are thus potential candidates for joiningthe professoriate [1]–[3]. Because students benefit from role models who reflect their ownidentities—as well as from exposure to instructors and mentors with diverse backgrounds—it isworthwhile to cultivate a diverse faculty, including disabled faculty [4]. Second, this work will also advance our scientific understanding of studententrepreneurship, an important yet under-researched topic.
