The project involves the design of a multi-stage,parallel shaft, gearbox used as a speed-reducer. The main objective of the project is for thestudent to experience the open-ended, iterative nature of the design process. The campus machine shop is very wellequipped and staffed and was available to help fabricate custom parts. 3-D printing of parts wasalso an option for the teams to use. Converting wasteto bioethanol creates a fuel from a biomass that would have been energetically wasted during thedecomposition process.
