Thechoice of a nuclear engineering project required students to utilize knowledge in mechanicalengineering but also forced them to learn more in areas such as material selection as applied tonuclear facilities. They were also required to make use of codes and standards that they had notpreviously used in order to achieve adequate safety factors for their design. The project havingindustry involvement and requiring more stringent safety standards due it being in nuclearengineering also made students more aware of the ethical implications of their design practice.A student survey was conducted to evaluate the impact on student learning, as related to theinterdisciplinary aspect of the project.
