IntroductionBeginning in 2016 at New Mexico State University (NMSU), a one-on-one mentoring program wasintroduced as part of a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded S-STEM grant designed tosupport academically talented engineering students who demonstrated financial need for up to eightsemesters. The full program included individualized self-assessment and monitoring academicsuccess workshops, metacognition and self-efficacy training, and self-study skills in addition to thefaculty mentoring.The goal of the faculty mentoring program was to be one component of creating a supportiveclimate for the cohort students. Specifically, the faculty mentoring was to allow each student
