The original paper discussed the details of the redesign of a measurements and analysis labcourse in order to allow for at home experimentation for students who were not able to be oncampus due to the COVID pandemic. This lab was run in a hybrid format where every lab teamhad both online and on campus students. Kits were sent to all students to allow them to performtheir part of the experiment at home if necessary. All participants participated in a first-year general engineering courseduring their first semester before taking discipline-specific classes. Data collection for cohort 1started in the Fall of 2019 and for cohort 2 in the Fall of 2020; for this study, cohort 1 had justfinished their second year, and cohort 2 had just finished their first year. Table 1 listsparticipants’ pseudonyms, self-reported demographic information, and major at the time of thelast interview. Engineering program administered the onlinesurveys during ENGR 101 and 201 within the first three weeks of class. Class of 2022completed the surveys in fall 2018 and fall 2019, and the class of 2023 completed the surveys infall 2019 and fall 2020.Analysis 6 Descriptive and inferential statistics demonstrated minimal differences between the twocohorts on the data collection tools used in the study, except for persistence. Analysis betweencohorts 2022 and 2023 revealed a significant association between cohort and persistence, 2 (1) =χ2 p = 0.02(1) = 5.438, p = 0.02. While beneficial because they arerequired courses, lab and design course instructors generally have limited time to get in depth,instead focusing on lower order thinking skills [9] such as remembering and understanding. This paper, based on theAmerican Society for Engineering Education’s 2019 “Engineering by the Numbers,” uses datafrom the 115 universities with 400 or more bachelor’s graduates in engineering in the UnitedStates. It describes a simple linear regression to predict the percentage of women engineeringgraduates based on the percentage of Asian-American tenured/tenure track faculty. For eachpercentage point increase in Asian-American faculty at a university, the percentage of womengraduates goes down by .236 percent. She currently chairs the ASEE Engineer- ing Deans Council Diversity Committee, and serves on the ABET Academic Affairs Council, the TMS Accreditation Committee, and the National Board of Directors for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Dr. Allen earned her BS in metallurgy and materials science from Columbia University, and her MS and PhD in materials science and engineering from Stanford University.
